About Matchaka
Matchaka started the way a lot of good ideas do. Two people in their 30s. Busy lives. Long days. Big nights. Too much coffee.
Inigo and I met through work and mutual circles in Hong Kong. Like many people here, we worked hard, played hard, and relied heavily on coffee to get through early mornings and long afternoons. One cup turned into three. Sometimes four. We were constantly wired but tired. Under the weather more often than we wanted to admit. It didn’t feel sustainable, and it definitely didn’t feel good long term.
That’s when matcha slowly entered our lives. Not as a trend, but as a ritual. Calmer energy. Better focus. No crashes. No anxiety spikes. It felt like something we could actually build into our daily routines.
But when we looked around Hong Kong, something felt off.
Matcha was either positioned as ultra niche, overly ceremonial, or heavily marketed toward a very specific aesthetic. High quality matcha existed, but it wasn’t accessible. And accessible matcha often compromised on quality. Most importantly, it didn’t feel inclusive. It felt like it belonged to a small corner of the internet, not real everyday life.
So we decided to build what we couldn’t find.
Matchaka is our answer to that gap. A high quality matcha brand that is accessible, modern, and for everyone. No investors. Just our own money, time, effort, and creativity poured into every decision. From sourcing to branding to how we show up in real life, not just online.
